Join Roxie at Hamilton Co. Library
From Hamilton County Library Director Amy Brucker:
Last night, Hamilton Co. hosted Author Roxie Yonkey as part of our Author Series. Roxie has published 5 books. Her latest released this month, titled “Historic Kansas Roadsides.” During her book event she shared several stories from the latest book. I personally loved learning more about the band Kansas and their song Dust in the Wind.
I wanted to share her information in case she wasn’t on your radar. She lives in Goodland. Her website is: https://roxieontheroad.com/ and her Facebook is: Roxie on the Road.

Stevens County Library’s Circle Time Kids Got a Special Visitor
From Stevens County Library Director Stacey Strickland:
On October 9, Stevens County Library Circle Time received a visit from a real life Red Kangaroo named Pippa! Pippa lives on Cake ‘n Cow Farms (@cakencowfarms on Instagram) in Stevens County along with Nigerian dwarf goats, mini cows, emus, and so many more non-traditional farm animals. Miss Stacey is excited to offer unique experiences to the Circle Time kids this year, and there are so many more surprises in store for them as the season progresses!
Here is a video that Stacey shared of the kangaroo bouncing around the library!
It’s not every day that you get to watch a kangaroo exploring a library! Here’s one more video. 🙂
Scott County Library’s Kids Met and Learned About Several Animals
From Children’s Librarian Millie Dearden:
We had Mackenzie from the Pratt Educational Museum here yesterday! She was awesome… she did a program for each of our age groups and did an amazing job! She had lots of animal pelts and skulls along with several live critters!!! All it cost us was a donation to the Museum!
We are planning on having her back in June for Summer Reading!!!

El Quartelejo Museum & Jerry Thomas Gallery & Collection
After the board meeting at Scott County Library last week, when we finished enjoying a delicious lunch (thank you, Rhonda and Scott County Library staff!), we ventured over to the El Quartelejo Museum & Jerry Thomas Gallery & Collection. Those of us who attended were blown away by this jewel in southwest Kansas! First, we walked into the newly minted fossil lab, where SCHS science teacher Kris Super (who also has his education in Geology and Paleontology from KU & FHSU) was working on a HUGE and very rare fossil that he found right here in Kansas of an Elasmosaur. According to Kris, this is one of only two skulls of an Elasmosaur ever found in Kansas, with the first one being in the 1800s. It’s also one of the most complete Elasmosaur fossils ever found and has been scanned by the local hospital so we could see what was inside the rock that he was carefully chipping away at. Kris is an enthusiastic and wonderful educator and he had us all entranced with his storytelling and the fascinating facts that he shared with us about his passion.
Next, we were guided through the museum by Stephanie Fisher, the former Director of Scott County Library! She shared with us the history of the museum, plans for the future, and of course, all kinds of interesting facts about fossils as well as local and regional history. We saw a model of the founder of Scott City, western historical artifacts, carriages, antique farming equipment, and more!
Once our tour of the musuem was complete, we went into the Jerry Thomas Gallery where we saw intricate paintings and beadwork as well as magazines that some of the original paintings were featured in. We were also treated to the stories behind some of the artwork. It was a very enriching experience.
If you are in the area, I highly recommend checking out this museum. It is a hidden treasure. Facility Manager Danny Siegrist is a gracious host. He has been at that museum for a very long time and would be happy to see more visitors stopping through. Tours are available Tuesday through Saturday, 1 PM – 5 PM or by appointment. You can call them at 620-872-5912.

New to the SWKLS Pro Collection
This fun, simple book was written by request from my national and international clients! Thanks for the kick to do it! In the dance world, yes, it takes two to tango but in the REAL world, It Takes 4 To Tango! There are four main personalities in the workplace. The differences between these four personalities can sometimes make it hard to communicate and get along. We often try to communicate with other people (personalities) like we want to be communicated with, not the way THEY want to be communicated with.
So what happens? We have communication break downs, negotiation let-downs and delegation fall-downs. It Takes 4 To Tango is the guidebook to solve these problems simply and fast! Discover how to: Communicate with people who are not like you Identify the DARK side of a personality Give feedback to the different personalities Emphasize your strengths Teach your children the life lesson…that people are not difficult just different.
There are four generations in the workplace today; Boomers, Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z. The problem is we have differences that form a gap, stifling our relationships and preventing us from working cohesively. Each generation was raised differently, including technologies, experiences, and world events that have shaped us.
Here is the bottom-line… Different does not have to mean difficult. The pointed questions and honest answers this book exposes are designed to help us understand and respect each other better, and bridge the generational gaps that divide us in our workplace and at home resulting in better more productive relationships.

In Dark Archives, Megan Rosenbloom seeks out the historic and scientific truths behind anthropodermic bibliopegy―the practice of binding books in this most intimate covering. Dozens of such books live on in the world’s most famous libraries and museums. Dark Archives exhumes their origins and brings to life the doctors, murderers, and indigents whose lives are sewn together in this disquieting collection. Along the way, Rosenbloom tells the story of how her team of scientists, curators, and librarians test rumored anthropodermic books, untangling the myths around their creation and reckoning with the ethics of their custodianship.
A librarian and journalist, Rosenbloom is a member of The Order of the Good Death and a cofounder of their Death Salon, a community that encourages conversations, scholarship, and art about mortality and mourning. In Dark Archives―captivating and macabre in all the right ways―she has crafted a narrative that is equal parts detective work, academic intrigue, history, and medical curiosity: a book as rare and thrilling as its subject.

Cybersecurity Awareness Month: Week 2: Multifactor Authentication!
Passwords alone are no longer enough to keep your accounts secure, especially with hackers using powerful tools to guess them. Strengthen your digital security by enabling Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). MFA adds an extra layer of protection by requiring a second step, like a code sent to your phone or a fingerprint scan. This way, even if someone gets your password, they won’t be able to access your account without that second form of verification. Make your accounts more secure and protect your personal information by turning on MFA today.
