What new thing or things did you learn about the State Library of Kansas website? I knew nothing about Explora,
What do you use the State Library of Kansas website for the most?Digital Book elending and Novelist Plus.
How do you see your library using kslib.info more in the future?I see using the archive webinars more and more for training.

What are you excited about sharing with your fellow:
    Library Staff Members-Webinar archives
Teachers- Explora sharing STEM lessons and other STEM Resources. Our school is going to have a STEM or STEAM room and this would be perfect for cirriculum ideas. Also Explora offers teachers many opportunities to use in the classroom.
Library Users? Novelist Plus. This could be great resource when trying to find a new author to read.

What would you like to see happen with the next Thing 12? I have enjoyed doing the 12 Things and some months are more overwhelming than others so it is harder to get it done. But I will say that they don’t take a great deal of time and I have used the information throughout the year. It has been a great resource.

Note we’re thinking of maybe doing 12 Things every other year and starting in January. That would work for me.

We are also thinking on making it where you you don’t have to complete all 12 things to be entered in drawings. Instead, the more lessons you complete, the more chance you have of winning small prizes or a big prize. I hate to say this but I don’t do it for the prizes I do it for the knowledge to learn something new. You have covered things I wanted to know about but never made the time to research it on my own.
    Please share your thoughts!

Wow! Look at you, Ruby! Good job. The STEM and STEAM lessons you found on Explora sound perfect. You’ll be even more excited about Novelist when Charlene does the VERSO/Novelist training soon.

Thanks for your 12 Things feedback. You have now completed all 12 Things! Congratulations!

    1. Almost everything that was covered was new to me, since I’m new to the library system! The only thing I knew about was eLending but even didn’t know much about the how to’s of it.
    2. eLending is what I use the most
    3. I see our library using it mainly for the webinars and helping people get their state cards
    4. Library staff: webinars and showing where the databases are to share with patrons
Teachers: The databases are something that teachers should share with their students for research
Patrons: I liked the Novelist Plus and sure many don’t know about this great resource!
    5. I’ve only been able to complete a few of these assignments but they have been very beneficial to me as a newcomer to the library. I plan on working on the others even though time is up! I don’t necessarily have any ideas but think it’s a great way to continue learning!
    Thanks!

    1. I learned about the NoveList and the read-alikes. I absolutely love this and plan on using it a lot! I also learned more about what online resources are available.
    2. I use the State Library Website the most for looking at what is available in the Floating Collection.
    3. I see our library using the State Library website more for vechicle resources and for read-alikes. Every once in awhile we have a patron looking for Chilton auto books, and if we don’t have them I would love to suggest the online resource to help them!
4.What are you excited about sharing with your fellow:
    1. Library Staff: NoveList Read-alikes for sure!
    2. Teachers: The online resources they can use in their classrooms.
    3. Patrons: The wide variety of online resources that are available to them for free.

5.What would you like to see happen with the next Thing 12?
    1. I would like to continue to have a Thing to do every month, but I do like the idea of starting over in January instead of starting right away in May.
    2. I think prizes are good incentives, big or small.
    3. I really enjoyed the 12 Things! Thanks for all your work putting it together!

What are you excited about sharing?

—LOVE for it to continue…it really doesn’t take that much additional effort to complete the activities! I’ve loved learning new things and refreshing what I thought I already knew 🙂
Every other year is great but I’m game for every year…LOL but then I don’t have to do all the work to put it together either!!!
Prizes are great but not necessarily necessary !!! I’d do it if no prizes were involved 🙂

1.What new thing or things did you learn about the State Library of Kansas website? Vendor provided training webinars, “How Do I?” tab (never checked this out before

2.What do you use the State Library of Kansas website for the most? eContent, signing patrons up for State Library Cards

3.How do you see your library using kslib.info more in the future? Novelist, and I found the “State Agencies” tab very interesting

4.What are you excited about sharing with your fellow:
    * Library Staff Members – a better use of Novelist for Readers Advisory
    * Teachers – getting teachers to use “explora kids” and “britanica schools”
    * Library Users – some will enjoy the Novelist, but I think there is great opportunity on self-paced adult education

5.What would you like to see happen with the next Thing 12? 1.Note we’re thinking of maybe doing 12 Things every other year and starting in January.
    * Definitely think every other year is a great idea. I didn’t mind having to complete all 12 Things, but if some of the topics are repeats, that would be nice not having to do it again (although a refresher is always good). I felt that the monthly topics encouraged me to take the time and stay fresh or learn about tools we could use in the library, I might have not taken the time to do that otherwise.

I am excited about the self-paced education, too. Holly from Grant County was telling me a few weeks ago about a drawing class she took through Universal Class. She said it was really interesting and she enjoyed seeing the drawings the other participants submitted. I have also noticed that they have some really good technology related self-paced classes.

1.) I hadn’t realized just how much information is on the Kansas State Library site or the vast ways this information can be used. It is not just for the individual, but for many different entities. I know nothing about Explora, so I will need to look into that more.

2.) I have used the site mainly for genealogy search requests.

3.) I will continue to use the site for those requests, and I am interested in the archives and training possibilities.

4.) I would be willing to share anything I can with anyone. There is a lot of information people don’t know is available to them and I think many would use it once they know this.

5.) For the next Thing 12 I have to agrre with Amy. I hadn’t taken much time to “explore” the things I generally don’t use and doing these different topics has helped me understand more, so that I might be more helpful to patrons in the future. I would like to see it continue. I like having the month to complete it since there are only 2 of us on staff. It gives me room to stay on top of my other responsibilties as well as complete the exercises.

      Laurie,

I am always amazed by how much is on the State Library website, too. It’s a good reminder to look at it regularly and to not just go to the same sections all of the time.

Thank you for your 12 Things feedback! I have sure enjoyed reading all of your comments and seeing everything you have created.

    1. I find something new every time I get on the state website! That the webinars are archived, although I think I knew that too! 2. Kansas Library eCards and databases. 3. I just thought that I should make up a fact sheet with the databases entitled ‘Having trouble finding what you need?’ or something like that to hand out and post by computers. 4. for staff I’d like to use the archived webinars for training; for teachers and patrons sharing the databases that are available. 5. I have enjoyed the 12 things. I would like to start and finish in the same year, prizes aren’t necessary although they add a fun twist to it. I like the idea of not having to complete all 12 to compete for drawings but maybe each one you finish you have more chances put in the drawing, or do quarterly drawings. Having to finish all to be eligible for the drawing did keep me ‘on task’ so to speak to make sure that I did each thing. Deadlines are great things!

    1. New things – I wasn’t aware of the extent of the resources. Auto repair?! I need to spend more time with Explora & promote it to the school.
    2. I currently use it mostly for digital book elending & ILL resources.
3.I can see getting more use out of databases & training resources. I need to look into the archived webinars & some of the other training resources, though some of that may have to wait till next school year starts.
4.Fellow staff members-training opportunities, resources available
    4. Teachers-Explora
    4. Library patrons-Databases-Kansas Learning Express
    5. I have enjoyed doing the 12 Things! It has pushed me to do more & find out more about all the Things you had for us. It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day & put off using all these great tools. The prizes are a nice bonus, I guess they add a little incentive to finish on time. Maybe next time you could have tiers of prizes, like something for 8 or 10 completed? Or just do 8, 9 or 10 months, skipping some of the busiest months, like Spring Break & Summer Reading months.

I discover something new almost every time I visit the State Library of Kansas website! Thank you for participating these last 12 months and I like the idea of having tiers of prizes or having some breaks.
