The Library Development Accreditation Program is intended to encourage and recognize attainment of the standards for public library service in the Southwest Kansas Library System. All fully participating public libraries are invited to participate in the accreditation program.

Applications for accreditation will be accepted from November 1 – 30 and notification of accreditation will be given by January 1. Accreditation will be valid for two years.

Before submitting an application, libraries may request a waiver no more than two standards from the following two sections: Library Services and Resources, and Automation and Technology. Requests for waivers must be submitted to the System Director by September 30.

Before submitting an application, if a library board considers a standard within Services and Resources or Automation and Technology to be inappropriate for its community, the board may propose a written plan for one alternative approach to that element of library service. Alternate Plans must be submitted to the System Director by September 30.

The library service levels in the Library Development Accreditation program are adapted from those contained in 2016 Revision of Kansas Public Library Standards.

Because of the mid-period 2018, accreditation applications that many Contracting Libraries have done, their Accreditation Period is for only the 2019 Accreditation Period.

The Accreditation Application for the 2020 – 2022 Period will be done by all libraries, wishing to receive grant funding through the Southwest Kansas Library System, in 2019.  These Accreditation Applications will be submitted for approval, from November 1 – 30, to take effect January 1, 2020.

Here are the next few years for the Application timeline and actual Accreditation Periods:
